Sockeye salmon differs from “normal” Atlantic salmon in both flavour and texture. Sockeye is wild caught, with a naturally deep red colour and a richer, more pronounced salmon flavour, whereas Atlantic salmon is typically farmed, paler in colour, and milder in taste. Sockeye is also leaner and firmer, meaning it cooks slightly faster and holds its shape well, while Atlantic salmon is higher in fat and softer, giving it a more buttery finish. In short, Sockeye is ideal for those who enjoy a bold, clean-tasting fish, while Atlantic salmon suits anyone who prefers a gentler, richer bite.

Cooking: Defrost before cooking. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) or 400°F (200°C). Place the salmon, skin-side down, on a lined baking sheet. Drizzle with oil and season with salt, pepper, and herbs like dill or parsley.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet and your desire. The flesh should turn from deep red to opaque pink and flake easily with a fork.
